The Amarnath Yatra features amongst one of the most important events
for Hindu pilgrims around the globe. The Yatra trek kicks off from the
mountains of south Kashmir Himalayas and ends at the Holy Cave Shrine of
Shri Amarnathji, and is made available only during the months of July
and August.
With the 59-day long Amarnath Yatra all set to commence today, we bring to you, everything you need to know about the auspicious event.
How to reach: The nearest aerodrome to the Yatra venue is Srinagar and the nearest railway station is Jammu. The journey to Amarnath is thus, not very difficult, as it is well connected by air and road. The frequency of buses and taxis is also ample which make the journey fairly easier and cheaper. Special helicopters are also made functional during the time of the Yatra.
Where to stay: Hotels and tents around the Yatra venue are easily available. Although, booking your accommodation in advance is highly recommended.
Where to eat: Apart from the exclusive hotel eateries, several “Bhandaras” and Tea stalls around the main caves, provide ample food to the pilgrims. Carrying your own water bottles is advised, as the trek is long and tedious.
Some tips to help you during the Yatra:
1. Carry your official documents and the Yatra registration forms along with you at all times.
2. People with serious ailments, breathing problems and physical impairments are advised not to make the Yatra as the trek is tedious and long.
3. The weather of Pahalgam is highly unpredictable, thus, it is highly advisable to carry things like raincoats, umbrellas etc which will help you combat it.
4.Pilgrims are advised to keep their medicines and health equipments intact during the course of the Yatra.
5.Carrying minimal luggage and traveling light is recommended.
