After the 1999 super cyclone, Odisha braced
another impact as the Cyclone Fani, pronounced as Foni, made its
landfall at around 9 AM on May 3, 2019. With wind speed over 200kmph,
it’s definitely a tense situation out there. The Indian Coast Guard has
positioned 34 disaster relief teams at Visakhapatnam, Chennai, Gopalpur,
Paradip, Kolkata, Haldia and Frazergunj. The state government has
evacuated over 1 million people from vulnerable areas. The cyclone will
continue moving north-northeastwards and will hit the Gangetic region of
West Bengal as severe cyclonic storm by the early morning of May 4.

winds just moments ahead of the landfall of cyclone Fani on the
outskirts of Puri in Odisha on May 3. The cyclone after hitting Puri
will gradually move towards the West Bengal coast, getting weaker
gradually.
