Sawan Somvar 2013 includes 4 Mondays in the month of Sawan. These 4 Savan Somvar days are considered to be the most auspicious and special of all Mondays of the year. Significance of Savan Somvar
Devotees of Lord Shiva wait all year long for the month of Savan. A

woman fasts on Savan Somvar, she will get married to the person of her choice.

Many girls in India fast on Monday and please Lord Shiva to fulfill their

Why is the month of Savan dedicated to Lord Shiva? Savan is the month of

considered to be the month of Lord Shiva. No wonder we feel so poetic,

Fast on Savan Somvar
To observe a fast on Savan Somvar, devotees wake up early in the morning
and take a bath. It is equally important to cleanse one’s body and soul. A
maligned heart is never suitable to perform any sort of a puja. All items, which
are required to perform the puja are arranged in advance so that there are no
interruptions during the puja. Bel patra, milk, curd, ghee, water, honey, kapur,
Ganga jal is used in worshipping Lord Shiva. Shiva aarti is sung in the morning
and in the evening. People fast all day long and chant hymns dedicated to Lord
Shiva. These fasts are especially very fruitful to unmarried girls. It is
believed that Lord Shiva helps them find a good and virtuous husband. Though
there are many ways of worshiping the Lord Shiva, he gets pleased with the
simplest acts of devotion and love.

the month of Sawan. India has culture of celebrating the entire month of Sawan

Shravan Month : The Ecstatic Month of Sawan
Shravan month in 2013 is going to commence on 23rd of July and will last
till 21st of August. Month of Shravan is the most auspicious month of the year
and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. In 2013 too, Shravan Maas is going to bring many
opportunities to enchant the Almighty and fetch blessings. Also known as Sawan

Shravan is the fifth month from traditional Hindu calendar, especially
the one followed in North India. This month begins in late July and ends in the
third week of August. Shravan month is also known as Avni in Tamil. With the
beginning of the Shravan month, Sun enters in Leo. The Hindu calendar of North
India calculates its month from the day falling immediately after Purnima (full
Moon night). As per Hindu calendar, 2013 is Saka 2070 year. Let’s now

Month of Sawan or Shravan holds special significance. In this month, the
powers of Almighty fall on Earth and people can utilize the best of this
time to realize their wishes and fetch blessings of Almighty. Apart from this,
Sawan is the favorite month of almost all Indians. As in this time, rainy season
begins. Newly married women visit their parent’s place. Basically, a woman after
getting married, celebrates her first Sawan month at her parents’ house only.
Not only this, children and women hang swings on trees to enjoy the auspicious
month. It is not practically possible to celebrate such festivals in metro
cities, but in villages and small towns people put their best efforts to
celebrate it.
