Purmandal

Purmandal (also called Chhota Kashi) is a village located on the Devika River in Samba district, Jammu and Kashmir, India. The village and its temples are a pilgrimage site for Hindus, who believe bathing in the river cleanses the soul.Purmandal is located on the banks of the Devika River in the hills about 30 kilometres (19 mi) southeast of Jammu and about 25 kilometres (16 mi) northwest of Samba by road via Vijaypur.
 Purmandal Temple, dedicated to Parvati, is built on the west bank of the river. A number of other temples are dedicated to Shiva. There is a large haveli (mansion) dating from about 1830, in good condition, and several dharamshalas (rest-houses for pilgrims), mostly severely deteriorated. Many of these structures are decorated with murals dating from between 1813 and 1898
 Every Month a Mela is Organized here.The devotees take a holy dip in Devak river and seek blessings. And there are total 12 Big events Mela in a year. Every Mela has assigned a unique name as per Month name like Chaitra Chaudish, Shivraatri Mela etc.

Purmandal Uttar Behni

Purmandal Temple, also known as Chhota Kashi, it dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. It is located in Jammu & Kashmir and it is 30 Km far from Jammu located on the bank of the beautiful Devak River.
This temple has many shiv lingams and most of them have originated naturally. Local people gave them the name of Aap Shambhu. People come from India and abroad to worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati here. It is believed that their prayers are converted into blessings here so they can lead a happy and prosperous life.
The marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati is celebrated for three days during the festival of Shivaratri when the entire town is decorated.

About Purmandal Temple

It is the most important temples for followers of Lord Shiva in Jammu region. Puramandal Temple has a unique place in the region because of its reputation, purity and provenience. It is considered equal to Kashi in Uttar Pradesh.
This temple is located in a small village by the same name on the bank of Devak River that scrolls down to join a river by name Utterbehni. It is believed that maximum lingums of this temple originated naturally in the nearby areas of Purmandal—Indreshwar, Gyaneshwar, Bhuteshwar and Bikeshwar. They are different avatars of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
Purmandal is a historical temple famous for its stone made structure. The temple is also famed because saint Kabir and Ustad Bismla Khan were born in Purmandal village. It is also said that Veni Dutt ruled here in ancient times when Purmandal Temple was part of his kingdom. He visited this temple between 8th and 9th century. Guru Nanak and Maharaja Ranjit Singh from Punjab also visited Purmandal Yemple in ancient period.

Purmandal Mela in Jammu

The devotees of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati gather here for three days in the month of February every year to celebrate the marriage between Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
Purmandal Mela is an extravagant occasion undertaken every year in Jammu with remarkable passion and interest. It is a public holiday in the state.
This festival lasts for three days and Jammu is decorated on all days like a bride. It is said that according to Hindu marriage, to tie a couple in complete marital bonds requires three days.
Purmandal Mela is a fabulous occurrence in Jammu. As per legends, after meditation Lord Shiva had been a homeless person who went to Himalayas and begged from door to door. Parvati was born and brought up in amidst of comfort and prosperity.
Therefore, King Himalaya had no objective to marry his daughter to a beggar. He was not aware of the fact that Lord Shiva has gone beyond a materialistic world.
At that time Parvati was rigid to her decision of marring Shiva and at the end her father agreed. Since then Purmandal Mela is celebrated and people wear their best clothes on these days to take full pleasure of this fair. In this fair winter garments, accessories, costumes, antique pieces are available.

Purmandal

A sacred destination positioned in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, Purmandal is also known as Chhota Kashi and serves as preeminent site for learning and studying ancient history. The main appeal is the Purmandal shrine devoted to Goddess Parvati. There are many other ancient shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva. Thousands of devotees from across the world pay a visit here every year. Regular bus services are also available from the cities situated in and around Jammu. The closest airport to reach here is Jammu Airport and the nearest railhead is Jammu Tawi Railway Station
