The Tapkeshwar Temple of Dehradun is linked to the city with well maintained roads and witnesses thousands of tourists visiting the temple to pay their obeisance to the deity. Buddha Temple @ Clement Town

Built in 1965, the structure was created under one of the four schools of Tibetan religion. These were named ‘Nyingma’, and the rest of three known as Sakya, Kagyu and Geluk respectively. It is believed to be the Asia’s largest reliquary and represents Buddhist structural design. Marvelous wall paintings in pure gold color, illustrates the life of Lord Buddha. Near about 50 artists took almost three years to paint the walls of the exemplary structure with gold paint. The remarkable fat about this Stupa is that, every floor has a Buddha effigy and Gurupadmasambhava’s statue amongst others. The essence of Indian Buddhism is truly highlighted here.

Travellers can reach the temple by availing bus services till Jaitunwala, and from there, it is a 2 km drive to Punjabiwala. From Punjabiwala, travellers have to trek about 2 km to reach the temple.According to legends, when Santla Devi and her brother realized that they would not be able to fight the Mughals, they threw away their weapons and started to pray. Suddenly, a light flickered on both of them, and they turned into stone idols. The temple is thronged by devotees on Saturdays, as it is believed that these days mark the transformation of Santala Devi into a stone statue.

The temple of Mahasu devta is very famous in the Jaunsar Babar range of Dehradun. Laksyar village is located at a distance of 5 kms from lakhwar and has a beautiful temple of Mahasu devta. The villagers are mainly farmers and therefore they mostly depend on their farming for livelihood. The Laksyar village has serene environment with Yamuna River making its way from the valley.
