SHEETAL NATH MANDIR AND VEER SAVARKAR. A PAGE FROM HISTORY. August 1943 . Our Younger generation should know about the significance of this great Tapobhumi. This is the picture of great Sheetalnath Temple located at Sathoo Sheetalnath Srinagar. Also a picture of Savarkar ji. Besides being the abode of Bhairava Sheetalnath the blessed Roop of Lord Shiva ,this place is famous for political and Social activities. Most of the Indian leaders Gandhi ji Nehru and Savarkar ji have addressed gatherings here. Besides that it has been the seat of Hindu educational Society Hindu High School the Alma mater of thousands among us . Hindu Mahasabha and RSS were quite active in the valley in 1940s It was in 1943 when great Vinayak Damodar Savarkar visited Kashmir ,addressed a public meeting and predicted that nefarious designs of Muslim league under Jinnah will have disastrous effect on Kashmir and warned Maharaja to be careful vis a vis Nehru and Sheikh Abdullah nexus. My grandfather told me that response to Savarkar ji was so overwhelming that he had to be brought by a boat through backwater called Naala Maer to reach the venue. Prominent speakers also included Pt.Shiv Narain Fotedar and Pt Gopi Krishna. How true was his prediction. For me and thousands of our Biradari members it is painful to be denied the puja at Sheetalnath. We only pray that things will improve someday when Sheetal Nath will be restored in its past glory.
