BONIYAR TEMPLE:
Lying on the banks of Vitasta and on the road between Uri and Nowshera, the Boniyar temple is said to be the best surviving specimen of Kashmir Architecture. The temple was constructed by the rulers of Anantivarman Dynasty and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Probably dating back to the late 9th century and is the last in the chain of temples which came up in the Kashmir Valley between 9th and 12th century. It was built on the high double story plinth with 2 ambulatory passages that can be reached by the double flight of stair case. In front of the temple are the remains of the platform where a column dedicated to Garuda the mythical bird man, once stood. At present the temple is in deteriorated state.
